Abercrombie & Kent: Tailor Made Costa Rica: An Immersive Rainforest Adventure
Day 1 San José, Costa Rica
Arrive in San José, the capital of Costa Rica, where you are met and privately transferred to your hotel, which is ideally located for exploring the city. Check in, relax and, tonight, enjoy dinner on site.

Day 2 TortugueroAfter breakfast and a couple of hours at leisure, fly to Tortuguero. Upon arrival, transfer to a dock to embark by boat to your impressive jungle lodge. Arrive to the sounds of nature, including wild species such as howler monkey, and settle into the tranquil setting with a cocktail in hand. Then, set out on your choice of two extraordinary, shared experiences. You may wish to kayak through the scenic Tortuguero canals beneath the sheltering rainforest, watching for wild mammals, waterlife and any of the hundreds of resident bird species. Alternatively, journey into the history and culture of Tortuguero Village or hike to Cerro Tortuguero for the only available birds-eye view of the spectacular Caribbean Lowlands.

Day 3 TortugueroOnce again enjoy a choice of activities and keep your camera close at hand for the wild creatures whose paths you may cross. After your explorations, return to the lodge where the rest of the day is at your leisure, free to relax or perhaps stroll the trails that crisscross the grounds of the lodge, watching for the tiny creatures such as colorful frogs and beautiful insects that populate the profuse foliage.

Day 4 ArenalAfter breakfast, fly to La Fortuna, where you meet your A&K Guide & Driver, who accompany you for the next three days. Head into the northern lowlands of Costa Rica to behold one of the country's most impressive volcanic attractions, the Arenal Volcano. Then, proceed to your hotel, an oasis of tranquility set on the outskirts of the volcano and surrounded by lush tropical rainforest.

Day 5 ArenalBegin your day with a combination of adrenaline and fun on a zipline adventure, as you navigate through a network of 15 platforms, five ziplines and even a swinging “Tarzan” rope, at heights where the treetops form the passing landscape. In the company of experts and your A&K guide, zoom over a canyon almost 400 feet deep, starting from the highest point in the surrounding 1,400 acres of forest. Take in spectacular views of the Pino Blanco waterfall, the Arenal volcano and Cerro Chato. Keep your eyes wide open, there might be a sloth or other forest denizens in the next tree you pass by.

Day 6 PapagayoJourney overland to the Gulf of Papagayo in Guanacaste, stopping en route in Rio Perdido for an adventure experience in the canyon that may include ziplining, hiking or whitewater tubing. Upon arrival in Papagayo, check in to your secluded beach resort hotel situated in a remote nature reserve at the tip of the Papagayo Peninsula and begin a relaxing three-night stay.

Day 7 PapagayoAfter breakfast, join your local guide and other guests on an activity that reveals the magic of the area’s unique ecosystem as you explore a mangrove forest by paddling or water bike. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure, sunning and splashing in the waves of the Pacfic on one of your hotel’s two private beaches.

Day 8 PapagayoRevel in another full day at your leisure, free to join optional tours (at an additional cost), indulge in some of your hotel’s many amenities or stretch out in the sun on the sparkling white sands.

Day 9 PapagayoReturn to San José, stopping en route at El Viejo National Wildlife Refuge for a private guided boat excursion. As you explore, take in firsthand views of Palo Verde National Park, learning about the local ecology and watching for resident wildlife, including an incredible number of tropical bird species such as the rose-colored spoonbill and the strikingly plumed Jabirú stork. After lunch, continue to San José and settle into your hotel.
